BEGINNER AND LEVEL 1 CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASSES

I'm Kait (she/her)! I am a dance artist who has big feelings. I am trying to make more space in my life for moving, healing, and pleasure! I teach a monthly 4 week beginner and Level 1 contemporary dance class that is sliding scale and body positive in the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and Sel̓íl̓witulh Nations/Vancouver. My class is loosely based in "release technique," which is a fancy word for different ways of lying down and rolling. This class will focus on grounding and connecting with the body. During our session we will explore joint mobility, floor work, balance, strength, and breath work for grounding and healing. I will be acting as a guide for the class, but you are the ultimate leader of your body! Any forms of movement during class as modification is more than welcome.

Going to a class for the first time is a very brave thing to do! My beginner class prioritizes the sacred energy of the beginner. This is a place to practice not know, trying, failing, and trying again! You will be in a room full of peers trying things out for the first time.

Class is sliding scale out of my desire to create accessibility in the classroom ($40-$140). Hope to see you there!

TESTIMONIALS

“Kait has cultivated a beautiful space in her dance classes where perfection is not the goal. Her focus is on encouraging us to connect with our bodies and now in ways that feel good to us. Kait’s enthusiasm in class is life giving and spreads to the whole class - I leave class with a smile 100% of the time!!” - Harris

“I have been a dancer at heart my whole life, but intimidating dance class culture and my own insecurities have mostly kept me from classes except for in a few shining cases. Kait's classes are one of those exceptions! She is a welcoming, compassionate, trauma-informed, body-positive instructor who creates a fun learning space for all of her students. Her warm-ups and choreo are fun and progress at a good pace, she celebrates questions and doing it wrong, and she's always ready to provide alterations where needed. I look forward to class every week!” - Gina

“Kait’s dance class was one of the first movement oriented classes I took after a shoulder surgery. I was so nervous I’d be out of my depth, or incapable of doing the movements needed to participate. Turns out, Kait’s class was one of the loveliest, most intuitive, most safe environments for me to be in to give movement another try! Everything from the song choices, to her inclusive teaching, to the learning gained from her classes made the experience so positive and therapeutic.”  -Siobhan

“Kait is a warm and generous teacher, whose playful practice is centred on care and joy. I took Kait's beginner contemporary dance class on a friend's recommendation, and spent the next few weeks rolling on the floor, hopping, stretching, and learning to give myself the best foot massage I could ever dream of. The class reframed my thoughts on what 'dance' could be - taking it from something that was beyond me to an understanding that it can be any movement with intention.” -Thom

“Kait creates a supportive, accessible opportunity for students to connect to the body through movement. Warmth, kindness, and play suffuse her classes - I look forward to them every week." - Lily

“Kait is warm, empowering, and silly. She creates a safe environment to play and reconnect to your body -- no matter how comfortable you might think you are playing or reconnecting. Her classes are dynamic but intentional, each section of the class telling a narrative that fits into the bigger story arc. Take her classes, no matter your skill level! You will be energized, embodied and happy.” -Teresa

“I enjoyed Kait's intro to contemporary dance class so much that I'm taking it a second time! I am a complete dance beginner and have really appreciated Kait's clear and accessible instruction, as well as her upbeat energy and enthusiasm for dance and movement. Kait is also excellent at cultivating a friendly and supportive environment within the class. Even when I arrive to class after having had a bad day, I always leave with a smile on my face. If you have any interest in dance or simply moving your body in new ways, I couldn't recommend Kait's beginner class more.” -Michelle

“Kait is a talented teacher. Her beginner class is fun, dynamic and very inclusive and welcoming. I felt right at home, and had a smile on my face the whole time. Highly recommend taking a dance class with Kait!” - Haley
